As part of this charitable initiative, Chennai Food Bank provided a delicious and wholesome lunch to 7,000 children attending the event. April 24th, 1993, marks a meaningful milestone in the journey of hunger relief in Chennai. On this day, Chennai Food Bank, now known as RYA Metro Foodbank, was established with a singular and deeply compassionate purpose — to eradicate hunger and serve the community with dignity and care.

The initiative was founded under the sacred guidance and blessings of His Holiness Kanchi Kamakoti Jayendra Saraswati Sastrigal, whose spiritual support gave strength and direction to the mission. Rooted in the philosophy of “Muthi Bhar Anaj” — the simple act of contributing a handful of grains — the organization was built on the belief that even the smallest act of giving, when multiplied by collective will, can create lasting social change.
