A Day at the Movies, A Lifetime of Smiles: Metro Talkies Brings Joy to God’s Own Children

In April 2022, Chennai Food Bank, now known as RYA Metro Foodbank, curated a memorable experience filled with excitement, care, and celebration through Metro Talkies—a special movie screening designed exclusively for God’s Own Children across Chennai.

As part of this initiative, 3,000 children from 30 needy institutions were brought together for an exclusive screening of the superhit movie Beast at Sathyam Cinemas PVR. For many of the children, this was a rare opportunity to enjoy a complete multiplex experience—big screens, surround sound, and the shared thrill of watching a popular film with friends.

The purpose of Metro Talkies went far beyond entertainment. The initiative was designed to offer children a full day of joy, inclusion, and emotional nourishment. From organised pick-up and safe transport to snacks, refreshments, lunch, and even caps, every detail was thoughtfully planned to ensure that the children felt cared for and celebrated throughout the day.

The experience created a sense of excitement from the moment the children set out for the theatre. Laughter, anticipation, and shared moments of happiness filled the day, allowing children to step away from routine challenges and immerse themselves in a world of fun and imagination. These moments of carefree joy play a powerful role in building confidence, emotional well-being, and a sense of belonging.

Community involvement was central to the success of this large-scale initiative. Coordinating logistics for 3,000 children from multiple institutions required careful planning, collaboration, and commitment. Volunteers and supporters worked together to ensure smooth execution—from transportation and safety to meals and overall comfort—so that every child could simply enjoy the experience without worry.

The impact of Metro Talkies 2022 was immediate and heartfelt. For the children, it created lasting memories of laughter, excitement, and shared celebration. For the organisation, it reaffirmed the belief that community welfare includes creating opportunities for happiness, cultural exposure, and dignity—alongside hunger relief.

Metro Talkies stands as a shining example of how thoughtfully designed experiences can touch young lives in meaningful ways. By opening the doors to joy and inclusion, Chennai Food Bank once again demonstrated its commitment to nurturing not just bodies, but hearts and hopes.

Together, we continue our journey towards a hunger-free world.

A New Space for a Stronger Mission: Building the Foundation for Greater Impact

In February 2022, Chennai Food Bank, now known as RYA Metro Foodbank, marked an important milestone with the renovation and inauguration of its office space. While much of the organisation’s work happens on the ground—serving meals, reaching communities, and responding to emergencies—this moment focused on strengthening the backbone that supports every act of service.

The purpose of the office renovation was rooted in long-term vision and responsibility. As the scale and scope of Chennai Food Bank’s activities continued to grow, the need for a more functional, organised, and efficient workspace became essential. The renovated office was designed to better support planning, coordination, volunteer engagement, and day-to-day operations that enable timely hunger relief and community welfare initiatives.

This transformation was not just about infrastructure; it was about creating a space that reflects the organisation’s values of dignity, care, and preparedness. A well-equipped and welcoming office allows teams to work more effectively, respond faster during crises, and collaborate seamlessly with partners, volunteers, and supporters.

Community involvement played a meaningful role in this milestone. The renovation and inauguration symbolised shared belief and collective trust in the mission of Chennai Food Bank. Supporters and well-wishers stood behind the idea that investing in systems and spaces is essential to sustaining impact and accountability in charitable work.

The positive outcomes of this initiative are ongoing and far-reaching. With improved facilities, the organisation is better positioned to manage large-scale relief operations, coordinate logistics, and serve as a dependable hub for hunger relief activities. The office now stands as a place where ideas turn into action and compassion is translated into structured, effective service.

More importantly, the renovated space reinforces continuity and resilience. It ensures that even as challenges evolve—be it disasters, public health crises, or everyday hunger—the organisation remains prepared, organised, and committed to its mission.

The February 2022 office renovation and inauguration represent a quiet but powerful step forward in Chennai Food Bank’s journey. It reflects a belief that strong foundations enable lasting impact, and that caring for the mission also means caring for the systems that sustain it.

Together, we continue our journey towards a hunger-free world.
